Renewal of curtains in the historic Amalia Moser Room
The Gasthof Kreuz dates back to the ‘upper tavern’ mentioned in 1624, which became an official inn in 1640 when it was granted tavern rights, and was rebuilt as a stone building in 1787. In 1890, the Herzogenbuchsee Women's Association, led by Amélie Moser, acquired the building and opened it in 1891 as Switzerland's first alcohol-free community centre, the ‘Arbeiterheim zum Kreuz’ (Workers' Home at the Cross). Today's Amélie Moser Room commemorates the founder and her commitment to education, social responsibility and the empowerment of women.
In 2025, the badly damaged curtains in the parlour were replaced in collaboration with a local craft business. An inner lining was dispensed with in favour of better durability and ease of care, while the original curtain rods were retained and refurbished for smoother operation.
